A Requiem for Consistency
The following is from a press release by the Wisconsin Catholic Conference on an issue that's going before the voters on a ballot this fall:
"Some might argue that opposition to taking this issue to the people is undemocratic. We disagree. There are certain issues where the values at stake are too important to be subjected to the whim of public opinion."
And here is part of another Wisconsin Catholic Conference press release on a different issue going before the voters on the ballot this fall:
"Wisconsin is one step closer to placing this question before the voters and the strong vote in favor of the resolution mirrors the public sentiment on the issue. The bishops anticipate that when given the chance to approve this amendment, the voters will do so, as they have in other states where the question was put before them."
